Location: 1900 Hampton Ave. - St. Louis, MO

Incumbents in this position are responsible for studying traffic patterns, designing traffic control systems, and programming and maintaining traffic control devices. This position oversees and manages the following programs: Cities Transportation and Mobility Master Plan (TMP), City of St. Louis Bike Plan, and Bike and Scooter Program.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Represents the Street Department on the Community Mobility Committee (CMC).
  2. Assists with reviewing project plans for approval and permits.
  3. Reviews and approves speed hump/bump requests.
  4. Participates in planning for traffic control and flow of traffic; meets with developers, city officials, consultants, contractors, and the general public.
  5. Provides testimony and correspondence regarding bike and pedestrian accidents.
  6. Researches funding opportunities and applies for funding for bike and pedestrian functions.
  7. Maintains records for bike and pedestrian accidents and crashes.
  8. Assists in resolving bicycling and walking traffic complaints from the public, City officials, and City employees.

  7. Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform basic mathematical operations and interpret statistical reports.

  10. Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  11. Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to lift, push, and pull tools and equipment.
  12. Sensory Requirements: Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Traffic or Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from a nationally accredited college or university approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); plus three years of professional traffic engineering experience.

License: Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis.
