No one in the hotel can understand a physical plant like you. You get to know each and every piece of equipment and corner of a building when you are the person in charge of it -- all with a strong guest centric focus and understanding that a happy guest = a strong bottom line.

You are a department head with a team whose sole job is to keep the hotel systems running to optimal performance, serviced by your team of caring and well-trained staff.

Responsibilities

1. Oversee all Aspects of Engineering: As the Chief, you manage the engineering department including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, etc. of your staff.
2. Maintain Hotel Operations: Your team must be able to professionally maintain the physical operation of the hotel including building structure, fixtures, refrigeration, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, water treatment, electrical systems, and grounds.
3. Ensure Guest Safety and Comfort: It is your job to ensure a safe, secure, and comfortable guest environment from a physical plant perspective, as well as a positive guest and employee experience.
4. Walk the Talk: As the Chief, you need to be walking your hotel every day -- getting out and inspecting the areas you are responsible for and training or retraining your team when things don't meet expectations.
5. Protect the Asset: You are responsible for protecting the asset for investors and owners.
6. Be a Leader: Create an environment that's engaging and one where talented people want to join, learn, do their best, and advance. Lead a diverse, motivated team which is empowered and coached to deliver the ultimate guest experience.
7. Be an Expense Guru: Set the standards, policies, and procedures for your department and then monitor operational and financial performance. Actively participate in the budget process for both your department and any capital needs you may be asked to give input on (including managing any renovation bidding process and contractor oversight if required).
8. Be Proactive: Ensure your department is accurately planning/forecasting for maintenance needs as well as staffing and supply levels to minimize expenses while delivering an exceptional guest experience.
9. Be the Manager on Duty: If requested.
