Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Director, Design, Process and Technology Engineering based in Farmington Hills, MI.

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Design, Process and Technology Engineering, the Director, Design Process and Technology Engineer will be responsible for working with Engineering Leaders, Manufacturing Operations Management, Product Managers, and other Engineering and Operational functional leaders to lead several Design & Engineering teams involved in the design, validation, and implementation of innovative and cost-effective product solutions of varying scope in order to meet customer requirements from development of conceptual prototypes and architecture through development into full-scale production.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do:

  • Direct and control the activities of broad functional area through several senior Design & Engineering managers involved in activities such as designing, developing, modifying and evaluating integrated circuitry for electronic equipment and systems.
  • Partner with other leaders to establish objectives and action plans.
  • Ensure the development of Design & Engineering solutions for diversified industry segments covering a wide range of products and volume mixes.
  • Ensure budget, schedules, and performance indicators meet corporate guidelines.
  • Provide technical and strategic guidance to subordinate directors to ensure achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Develop and continuously improve people, methods, systems, processes, and metrics in a complex and rapidly changing environment to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Organize and lead reviews to ensure projects are delivered on time, as per cost targets and within quality specifications.
  • Partner with Operations leaders to ensure Engineering & Design activities are well integrated with manufacturing operations including the use of Design for Manufacturability principles.
  • Implement appropriate HR Strategies and actions to recruit and retain a qualified and motivated workforce.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and training plus a minimum of 8 years of management experience. A Master’s or MBA degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrates mastery of functional knowledge in relation to other functions and a complete understanding of the function and those of related businesses.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, make educated decisions and drive action plans for progress.
