We have an opening for a Product Engineering Manager. This position is responsible for effective leadership, administration, and professional direction of the site’s engineering team. This individual will be responsible for short and long-range product development and to improve reliability, performance, and cost for existing product lines through sound execution of engineering principles and processes. The position also coordinates support to and from division and group engineering beyond the immediate site. Accountabilities under this individual’s direction are Engineering Production and Aftermarket Support, New Product Development, and Research & Development. This position is responsible for the oversight of the Hydraulic Controls product line which includes actuation, designing new products and commercialized solutions to support customers’ technical requirements for the Fuel & Motion Control Systems Division (FMC). The position requires hydraulic or fluid component knowledge, primarily in a new product development environment.

The specific functions of this position include the following:

  1. Lead an engineering department to deliver high quality technical output on time. Provide technical advice and guidance to this team; create opportunities for growth and development. Develop culture and grow employee satisfaction, product expertise, etc.
  2. Develop organizational capability/capacity and engineering/technical skills among staff to support the site and division strategies and initiatives. Maintain appropriate training programs to assure continuous learning.
  3. Develop capability for improved engineering techniques that add value to our products. Develop practices for documented technical standards around best practices and using lessons learned.
  4. Develop and implement processes and tools for engineering tasks consistent with industry best practices. Monitor to assure adherence to defined processes.
  5. Continuous improvement of resource management, productivity, and first-pass quality. Use of tools including Design for Six Sigma to achieve that end. Budgeting and resource planning. Identify key engineering metrics, monitor performance and implement improvements accordingly.
  6. Participate in the strategic planning process for the site and the division; maintain site strategic product and technology roadmaps and lead innovations processes supporting those plans.
  7. Assure that product designs are competitive on a global basis with respect to cost performance, quality, and reliability. Maintain visibility to and relationships with customers’ technical teams.
  8. Participate in division engineering leadership team. Ensure that potential synergies between the site and other divisional, group, and global engineering sites are identified.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Criteria:

  • Experience with engineering processes/tools required
  • Experience supporting product development and sustainment programs required
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication presentation skills and the ability to work well with customers and development team members
  • Stay abreast of industry technology trends and act as the organizational liaison to universities and industry organizations accordingly
  • Train and develop engineers

Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements):

  • BS Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 5 years' of direct MOP (manager of people) experience
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS Degree Mechanical, Systems, or Aeronautical Engineering
  • MS in engineering and/or business management is desirable
  • 15+ years of engineering experience with progressing career responsibilities
  • 5+ years experience managing managers of people
  • Experience with fuel systems, hydro-mechanical actuation and control products preferred
  • Six Sigma for Design and Development (SSDD) or Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) a plus and desirable
