As Sr Product Designer you will work with a multi-disciplinary team of stakeholders to deliver compelling UX solutions while acknowledging limitations and trade-offs.
A successful candidate will partner with user experience specialists, product managers, medical practitioners, and engineers worldwide to solve complex problems with simple, intuitive, yet robust designs.
What You Will Do
Influence product vision and strategy:
- Refine and improve the long-term direction of how your product evolves in correlation to the business strategy.
- Help us understand the product, the future vision, and how we'll achieve it.
- Plan and conduct Design Thinking activities with your multi-disciplinary team and drive your team to excellence in execution.
- Influence partners and their approach, strategy, and processes.
Shipping design:
- Design for the extremes and produce an array of divergent design solutions informed by a wide variety of data sources.
- Produce a wide variety of design artifacts from Interaction Models to pixel-perfect designs to communicate design concepts effectively.
- Evaluate proposed design solutions against pre-determined quality and success criteria and articulate the rationale behind design decisions.
- Work closely with researchers to plan research activities, uncover unmet needs, and constantly validate that the design solutions meet all safety requirements.
Execute within the medical environment constraints:
- Lead the UCD activities for your program, according to our internal work instruction.
- Ensure all required Design documentation complies with the IEC 62366-1:2015 specification.
Collaborate to learn and grow:
- Partner with design peers to develop and evolve the long-term UX strategy for our internal tools to ensure UX is always at the heart of every development.
- Actively engage with other designers to give and solicit feedback to continually ensure that the design solutions are smart and safe to use.
- Actively share feedback and comments on others' work to help them grow in their field.
What You Will Have
- BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience delivering great experience design as UX designer, interaction designer, information architect or similar.
- Advanced visual design skills; we use Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, and we are open to experimenting with other tools that can help the team.
- Experience working in the healthcare domain or similar regulated industries with design control, regulatory practices, and standards for medical devices.
- Knowledge of agile software development methods is highly desired.
- Great communication and presentation skills that speak to a broad range of audiences.
- Have an online portfolio or a PDF portfolio that can be shared along with the application. Application without a portfolio will not be considered.

- Strong experience working side-by-side with engineers and product managers to build intuitive experiences.
- Demonstrable will to solve problems, big and small, glamorous or not, for all kinds of users.

- Able to focus on mid-to long-term objectives while managing short-term tactics and operational decisions.
- Understanding of the importance of setting aside the time and space to learn and grow your design practice.

Position must have full access to Varian client sites to perform the essential functions of this position. Many clients require Varian employees and representatives to meet certain Vendor Credentialing requirements before they will be allowed to have access to their sites. The base pay range for this position is Min $127,600 - Max $229,700. The pay wage range shown is based on the job posting's primary location. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications, and location.
