Part-time Software Developer

Company:  Code4lib
Location: Boston
Closing Date: 16/10/2024
Salary: £150 - £200 Per Annum
Hours: Full Time
Type: Permanent
Job Requirements / Description

The Homosaurus: An LGBTQ+ Linked Data Vocabulary is seeking a Part Time Software Developer to support the creation of a collaborative, multi-language platform for the project.

Hosted out of Northeastern University (Boston, Massachusetts), the Homosaurus is designed to enhance broad subject term vocabularies with a robust and cutting-edge thesaurus that advances the discoverability of LGBTQ+ resources and information.

Our current platform (GitHub link) is a Ruby on Rails application called Opaque Namespace (developed by Oregon State University Libraries and the University of Oregon Libraries), which our developer rebased to a three-part backend using Solr to display records, Postgres to store data and preservation metadata, and Blazegraph for querying. We are looking to migrate from this setup to Skosmos, possibly in combination with VocBench, so we are seeking someone with experience using these platforms (or with the capability of doing so) who will also do some design work around our administrative interface.

The Software Developer will prototype, test, implement, and migrate our current vocabulary to a new platform (with initial onboarding and support from our current developer). This part-time work will be conducted on an hourly basis, typically a few hours per week after a more intensive set-up period, and it may continue for multiple years. Rate is negotiable, but expected pay range is $75–$100 USD hourly, based on experience. We especially encourage LGBTQ+ and BIPOC candidates to apply.

How to apply

To apply, please email K.J. Rawson ( ), Chair of the Homosaurus Editorial Board, with a brief cover letter and resumé. For full consideration, please apply by November 8th, 2023.
