Position Description

The Software Engineer will advance the capabilities of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) by providing software design, development, and maintenance. The position includes full lifecycle software support for web applications, user interfaces, geo-processing tools, GIS map services, REST interfaces, database manipulation applications/interfaces, and workflow management tools. NAVOCEANO is located at NASA’s Stennis Space Center and the work would be performed in NAVOCEANO’s facilities.


Required Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in software/computer engineering or computer science.
  2. 3 years’ experience with object-oriented programming languages such as Java or Python.
  3. U.S Citizenship with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI Security Clearance.

Desired Experience

  1. Programming languages such as Java and Python.
  2. Web languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  3. Database/data design.
  4. Unix/Linux scripting and crons.
  5. Unit testing frameworks such as JEST and JUnit.
  6. Self-motivated yet able to work well within a development team.
  7. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  8. Active TS/SCI clearance.

Strong Additional Consideration For Experience With

  1. GIS concepts, ArcGIS Server, Geoprocessing.
  2. UI design experience.
  3. REST interfaces.
