Software Test Engineer - Financial Risk Management

The Financial Technology Group (FTG) seeks a Software Test Engineer to join its Financial Risk Management (FRM) Practice in Chicago, IL. We are a cohesive team of dedicated and enthusiastic software and quality assurance engineers, further supported by two managers and a small operations team. The spectrum of our work is broad, ranging from ad hoc solutions tailored to meet the immediate needs of a client to enterprise-scale applications critical to long-term business operations. This means that responsibilities are varied. However, on a perpetual basis we own, operate, and continuously improve three major platforms: GridStep (for on-premises and cloud high-performance distributed computing), Hedge Ops (for enterprise reporting, workflow and governance), and RISE (for individual Retirement Income Security Evaluation via the web).

This role will report to the Financial Technology Senior QA Engineer.

What You Will Do

The QA Engineer role will be responsible for Quality Assurance on a range of solutions developed by the FTG, including the platforms identified above as well as a broad spectrum of other internally-developed tools, libraries and applications.

You Will

• Perform manual testing of systems as required
• Automate test cases using appropriate technologies at the unit and integration levels
• Perform front-end as well as back-end testing including databases
• Develop mock/stub models for testing/QA
• Participate in meetings with the QA team as well as with developers and end-users
• Proactively learn system functionality and how those systems participate in business processes
• Work closely with developers and other testers to understand requirements
• Work with users to determine use cases
• Design and document creative test cases
• Execute and report test case results
• Create detailed bug reports, as needed

• B.S. in Computer Science or related field
• 3 or more years of QA experience in a related industry
• Proficiency in C# and/or Python
• Experience with test automation tools such as Selenium
• Knowledge of waterfall and Agile development life cycles
• Experience with databases and development of database queries, preferably with SQL Server
• Experience with systems testing and test case development
• Proficiency with black-box and white-box testing
• Experience with regression testing

• Familiarity with SharePoint, JIRA, Zephyr, and/or Azure DevOps
• Understanding of git, subversion and Azure DevOps pipelines
• Excellent communication skills
• Good teamwork skills

• Experience in the financial industry preferred
• Ability to automate test cases using appropriate technologies
• Ability to integrate automated tests with automation/continuous integration tools such as Azure Pipelines and/or Jenkins
• Experience with Performance and/or Load testing
• Experience with API testing (including tools such as Postman or Curl)
• Experience coding in VBA

Candidates hired into this role will be required to work in-person in the Milliman office in Chicago, IL on a weekly basis, but flexible work arrangements will be considered.
