Job Overview:

Supervises Licensed 1st, 2nd, 3rd Assistant Engineers, Unlicensed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Engineers, Chief Electrician / Hourly Electricians, Electronics Technician
Material Control Administrators, Project-specific temporarily assigned mechanics/electricians/ technicians, All sub-contract Engineering Dept. personnel



Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and operations of the entire Engine Department inclusive of engine as well as all above deck machinery and crane.
  • Delegates to First Assistant Engineer in assigning priorities to work, handling all disciplinary problems in the Engine Department, and completing all administrative paper work required.
  • Responsible for the supervision, training and evaluation of Engine Department personnel and interacts with Engineers daily to monitor general and specific engineering department operations.
  • Responsible for overseeing the Computerized Maintenance Management System to ensure that equipment and systems are being properly maintained, history is being properly documented and that spare parts transactions are being handled properly.
  • Responsible for evaluating Engine Department overtime and stores requisitions.
  • Responsible for maintaining sufficient documentation, tools, spares and supplies to enable the department to maintain the vessel equipment and systems in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for repair and maintenance of project-specific JRM and rental equipment while onboard, including supervision of project-assigned mechanics/ electricians/technicians.
  • Follows a continuous improvement process that includes familiarization with vessel systems and equipment, and taking advantage of any company-offered craft training.
  • Promotes company health, safety, and environmental programs and ensures implementation.
  • Ensures that company objectives, policies, programs, and procedures are consistently adhered to.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Onshore Supervisor.


Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Holds and maintains a USCG or equivalent and Flag State license for Chief Engineer, Motor vessels of any Horsepower.
  • STCW endorsements applicable to the vessel upon which they are serving.
