Job Description

Are you looking to work with a multi-disciplined team of engineers and scientists to support, evaluate, and implement chemistry analysis equipment shipboard? We have an exciting entry level opportunity in our Chemistry & Component Technology team that will support chemicals and chemistry equipment for U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and submarines.

Some of the responsibilities include:
o Work with a multi-disciplined team of skilled engineers and scientists to evaluate commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) chemistry equipment for potential shipboard application
o Support currently deployed chemistry analysis equipment by designing tests and qualifying new hardware and writing technical manual procedures.
o Resolve issues with fleet chemicals, chemical analysis methods, and chemistry equipment.
o Research and development of new chemistry analysis methods and techniques to simplify and modernize existing shipboard analysis methods and to support implementing new technology.
o Wide variety of work types including hands-on chemistry laboratory work, data evaluation, authoring technical and cost/benefit engineering evaluations and recommendation reports, authoring system operating and troubleshooting procedures.
o Efficiently work on multiple tasks concurrently and have a strong drive to resolve questions and complete tasks in a timely manner. Willing and able to respond to changes to task assignments and priorities based on emergent issues and system needs.


Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field.

Preferred Skills

o Chemistry or chemical engineering laboratory experience.
o Excellent oral and written communication.
o Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, demonstrating academic excellence in core (engineering/science) courses.
o Experience with COTS analytical chemistry equipment including autotitration, ion selective electrodes, spectrophotometers is a plus

Pay Range

$62,000.00 - $94,900.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
