Digital Consultants is seeking a qualified Principal Data Engineer who will be responsible for the maintenance, improvement, cleaning, and manipulation of data in the business’s operational and analytics databases. The Data Engineer works with software engineers, data analytics teams, data scientists, and data warehouse engineers to understand and aid in the implementation of database requirements, analyze performance, and troubleshoot any existent issues. The Data Engineer has to be an expert in database development further providing support to the Data and Analytics in database design, data flow, and analysis activities. The position of the Data Engineer also plays a key role in the development and deployment of innovative big data platforms for advanced analytics and data processing. The Data Engineer defines and builds the data pipelines that will enable faster, better, data-informed decision-making within the business at FT MEADE, MD.

Duties to include:

  • Will work across multiple data centers and AWS regions, create data tools for analytics, build, and optimize ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures, and data sets, perform root cause analysis on internal/external data and processes
  • Required to draft regular performance and progress reports and prepare presentations for senior data engineering management and senior data science leadership, reports that have to be clear, concise, engaging, and convincing, which will require exceptional communication skills to deliver
  • Will work with large and complex data sets as well as analyze volumes of data through basic Microsoft Excel functions, macros, and pivot tables.
  • Responsible for creation and debugging of databases, building and maintaining physical and logical data models, system management, monitoring, disaster recovery, backup, automated testing, automated schema migration, and continuous deployment

Requirements:

  • Research, design, develop, and/or modify enterprise-wide systems and/or application software, develop complex data flows, or make significant enhancements to existing pipelines
  • Resolves complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design considerations
  • Conducts investigations and tests of considerable complexity
  • Researches emerging technologies to determine their impact on application execution
  • Provides input to staff involved in writing and updating technical documentation
  • Troubleshoots complex problems and provides customer support for extraction, transform, and loading (ETL)
  • Develops queries and processes large data sets and performs data quality checks.
  • Performs quality assurance and verifies the accuracy of solutions
  • Excellent organizational, coordination, interpersonal, and team-building skills
  • Knowledge of network operating systems; Windows, Linux, Distributed Computing, Blade Centers, and cloud infrastructure with strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to comprehend database methodologies
  • Clearance: Secret
  • Education/Experience: Requires a Master’s degree and 7 to 10 years of related software engineering and/or military experience
  • Certification: Sec+
