Job Description:

We have a Commissioning Engineer position to cover New Hampshire, this person can be based anywhere in the area. This individual will be responsible for commissioning transmission and distribution substations additions or modifications ensuring they are installed, functioning, and energized correctly. This role serves as a safety net to ensure that any errors introduced by incorrectly engineered design packages, installation errors, or equipment failures are corrected before the equipment is energized and released for service.

Senior Engineer is responsible for training new engineers/technicians in relay testing, equipment testing, and substation commissioning.

Responsibilities:

  1. Review specifications and engineering drawings to understand the purpose and functionality of substations.
  2. Schedule the installation and commissioning with subcontractors and customers.
  3. Provide safety analysis and proper equipment isolation procedures.
  4. Provide a day-to-day outage plan for customers.
  5. Develop detailed test procedures and sign-off sheets for each piece of equipment.
  6. Monitor construction and address technical questions during construction, installation, and testing.
  7. Identify and resolve design errors.
  8. Assist field crews and dispatch in developing switching sequences and ensuring proper hold points for testing.
  9. Witness or perform critical tests such as DC Functional Trip Testing prior to energization.
  10. Direct crews during critical work junctures, especially during final commissioning and initial energization.
  11. Acknowledge substation modifications as complete and functional, formally turning it over to Dispatch.
  12. Support several capital projects simultaneously, reviewing test results and monitoring work.
  13. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, demonstrating awareness of their needs and constraints.
  14. Manage resources and services required to install electrical equipment.
  15. Assist in developing estimates for client proposals and business development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or engineering technology) preferred; Associate degree acceptable with proven experience.
  • 3+ years of experience preferred in relevant areas.
  • Ability to understand AC and DC elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawings.
  • Develop standard testing documentation and maintain project documentation.
  • Candidate should be able to obtain NICET certification or equivalent.
  • Diverse skill set with the ability to work independently and guide lower-level engineers/technicians.
  • In-depth understanding of three-phase power systems and protection/control schemes.
  • Experience in testing, troubleshooting, and servicing electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, RTU, and DFR systems; AutoCAD knowledge is desired.

Travel: Work will be mostly onsite at clients primarily throughout New Hampshire.

Driver’s License: Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license.

Physical Demands: Seeing, color perception, hearing, listening, clear speech, dexterity in hands, lifting, climbing, and exposure to various environmental conditions.

Working Environment: On-site environment may require work in various temperature conditions, moisture, and heights, with potential exposure to noise and chemicals.
