Department Summary:
MITRE’s Systems Security Engineering Department has a new opportunity for a strong technical candidate to join an innovative team of engineers focused on ensuring resilient and secure solutions for sponsor or customer needs and developing security capabilities. If you want to work on a challenging systems and projects focused on enabling resiliency, security, and cybersecurity capabilities in direct support of critical Government challenges then keep reading! The right candidate will enjoy a fast-paced teaming environment, as well as working with cutting-edge technology, and contributing to advanced security concepts. We are seeking a self-starter to lead efforts building security into large engineering projects and acquisition efforts.
To succeed in this position, you must be a subject matter expert in a broad range of security topics ranging from strategy and planning, governance and management, to protection, detection, mitigation, and cyber and military operations. You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills to present your findings, make actionable recommendations, and present innovative ideas to the Senior Government Sponsors.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy software applications and systems.
- Participating in the entire software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
- Utilizing your expertise in Python, Java, C#, and other relevant programming languages to develop efficient and scalable software solutions.
- Ensuring software quality through code reviews, testing, and debugging.
- Assisting in the design and implementation of microservices.
- Designing and engineering prototypes to improve sponsor capabilities in software development and implementation.
- Delivering software designs and prototypes.
- Researching emerging technology.
- Interfacing with sponsors and other stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Working knowledge of systems engineering and cyber security processes and tools.
- Solid understanding of software engineering principles and practices.
- Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the specific role, such as software development, semantic web technologies, knowledge-based reasoning, and ontology development.
- Knowledge of tools and methodologies commonly used in software engineering, including JIRA, Git, Jenkins/Gradle, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work on-site as required by the position.
- Must be US citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience leveraging and contributing to MITRE D3FEND.
- Demonstrated development experience with SPARQL and Svelte technologies.
- Demonstrated application of cybersecurity, systems engineering, or systems security engineering practices.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance.
