We will be building and operating a high precision, high volume, fast passed, and highly automated test laboratory supporting the rapid characterization of new materials for the Department of Defense. This position will perform duties to mechanically test product to required specifications.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Actively participate in daily safety discussions to ensure the continued success of the program - maintain knowledge of process through training, perform scheduled observations, and provide quality feedback in order to promote safer work behaviors and conditions.
- Review shop order and specifications to determine testing parameters.
- Machine test samples to appropriate dimensions. Set up and operate pre-programmed CNC lathe (programming experience is not required).
- Set up and perform mechanical tests (including tensile, Charpy, Dynamic Tear).
- Document test results and enter into computer system. Identify conformance and/or non-conformance to the test requirements.
- Calibrate and adjust test instruments.
- Verify and maintain part identity and traceability throughout test procedures.
- Program and operate lab furnaces.
- Communicate production and equipment problems to appropriate personnel.
- Use time productively to ensure efficient departmental productivity.
- Understand and follow the Scot Forge quality policy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Proficiency in basic math.
- Operate pre-programmed machines, a micrometer, a Vernier caliper, mechanical testing, and hardness testing equipment.
- Must have ability to read blueprints.
- Knowledge of different material grades and how they are tested is preferred.
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with MS Word, Excel
Metallurgy Laboratory and Manufacturing Shop Floor environments.
- This position will work under the direction of the department supervisor. This position may be required to learn/develop additional skills to flex to other departments/locations/shifts in order to service the business needs and meet customer expectations
