What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will join the Private, Personal, & Digital Banking Technology Team. You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced financial services environment. As part of our team, you will work on a team building a comprehensive digital banking platform solution for CIBC US, that meets the needs of both our private wealth and personal clients. This platform will focus on providing best in class User Experience (UX), functionality, and services to our customers.

The Principal Software Engineer is a seasoned professional in leadership and mentoring responsible for providing direct application delivery services and production support, undertaking new initiatives and base essential support applications. The role applies leadership skills and technical expertise to direct, manage and support large and critical applications on a day to day basis, leading internal change initiatives in alignment with ongoing technological changes.

You will have deep experience and expertise in designing and delivering solutions using modern software engineering practices and cloud technologies. You will build innovative solutions to solve exciting business problems and continuously improve our customer's experience.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders on feature requirements and feedback.
  • Deliver solutions architecture and designs.
  • Write and debug code for a product feature while defining coding standards and best practices.
  • Implement test automation and configure telemetry to continuously improve operational resilience.
  • Continuously learn to grow your technical knowledge.

How you'll succeed

  • Delivery Focused – Deliver solutions to complex technical challenges while working with budget, time, and regulatory constraints.
  • Hands On Programming Skills - Develop technical specifications, high level/detailed design, testing strategies, and implementation plans from business requirements. Coding, testing, and debugging end-to-end stack of applications and services.
  • Collaboration - Partner with security, engineering and product teams to define software solutions to meet our customer needs. Will be working across lines of business to solve the most complex engineering challenges for US Technology.
  • Moderate the Solution Creation Process: Lead, facilitate and coordinate the solution design, including ensuring alignment across multiple workstreams.

Who you are

  • You are a seasoned technical leader. You have 7+ years of demonstrated experience in technical architecture and solutions design, including a clear understanding of data structures, algorithms, software design, core programming concepts and experiences with continuous integration and continuous delivery/deployment.
  • You are a strong problem solver , organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment with delivery focus as part of a global team.
  • You are an excellent communicator who is comfortable engaging stakeholders, both verbally and written.
  • You have a knowledge of relational SQL databases , including database design.
  • You have experience working with infrastructure from major cloud vendors (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.).
  • You embrace and champion change. You'll continuously evolve your thinking and the way you work in order to deliver your best.

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
