Job Requirements / Description

The CFD Design Engineer is responsible for designing ductwork using multiple analytical and numerical tools, including CFD. The CFD Design Engineer is expected to create iterative CAD designs and CFD models to satisfy the project’s flow requirements while being sensitive to the project’s schedule and budget. He/she will interface with internal engineers, customers, and third-party engineers. The CFD Design Engineer will be responsible for multiple projects running concurrently. In addition to executing projects, the CFD Design Engineer may provide a limited amount of support to sales, aftermarket, and field service.

Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Uses ANSYS Fluent CFD software to model the flow of exhaust gas in Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) systems for a variety of industrial applications including combined cycle (HRSGs), simple cycle gas turbines, packaged boilers, industrial boilers, fired heaters, and other applications.
  • Validates and improves the design of ammonia and cooling air injection systems into exhaust gas.
  • Generates complete and concise CFD reports for review by internal and external engineers.
  • Works with the design group in the generation of engineering deliverables for customer approval.
  • Works with customers to obtain approval of proposed designs.
  • Provides technical support for project engineers during the detail design of equipment.
  • Communicates directly with project engineers, sales managers, and customers.
  • Participates in new product or product development initiatives.
  • Collaborates with project management to maintain schedule and seek out change orders.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a technical related field.
  • Five (5) years minimum of industrial CFD experience.
  • CFD modeling for industrial ductwork applications and experience with ANSYS Fluent.
  • Must be able to create a 3D model of the application using common 3D modeling software.
  • Must be able to create a mesh of the model using the ANSYS Fluent Mesher software.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Dynamics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CFD modeling of SCR systems and knowledge of turbulence, species transport, and porous media modeling for fluid systems in large ductwork.
  • Experience with spray evaporation and/or combustion process is a plus.
