Purpose
You will provide engineering support for the design of substation facilities for voltages up to and including 765 kV as part of the Power Networks team. This includes new substations and switchyards, modifications, additions, and upgrades to existing facilities.
Responsibilities
- Substation physical design including overall engineering and analysis for new switchyards and substations, additions, and modifications.
- Preparation of specifications and provide procurement support.
- Preparation of engineering drawings including layout and general arrangements for all major equipment and structures required for high voltage switchyards or substations.
- Perform auxiliary electrical power system studies including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, protection and coordination, ampacity, and battery sizing studies.
- Perform substation grounding calculations and studies, lightning protection, and insulation coordination.
- Perform proposal preparation, proposal estimates, and provide input to scope documents and client presentations.
- Work in a team-oriented environment and independently as needed.
- Responsible for the quality assurance of documents to applicable standards.
- Supervise/coordinate other engineers and provide technical direction.
- Complete tasks in accordance with project procedures, applicable codes, and standards.
- Discuss technical problems and communicate effectively with project personnel and customers.
- Perform independent audits and reviews of technical work.
- Act as a lead engineer responsible for the quality of deliverables.
- Interface with other departmental staff, project management, and outside customers.
- Ability to travel to job sites for site walkdowns.
What you will bring
Technical and Industry Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in substation engineering.
- Strong technical and practical engineering skills.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals and applicable standards.
- Competent use of electrical engineering specific software and MS Office Suite.
- Experience in project leadership roles.
Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required: 4 or 5 year Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering.
Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States.
