Job Title: Control Engineer (Application Specialist)
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in designing, configuring, testing, debugging and documenting client PLC/DCS applications.
  • Provide technical assistance and routine consultation to users and clients in the use of various control system platforms.
  • Apply ISA industry standards and techniques to drive efficient and maintainable configuration.
  • Review and interpret client specifications to produce project Functional Design, drawings, and test documentation in accordance with the project requirements and standard procedures.
  • Perform hardware and software analysis to ensure efficient computer/system/network resourcing.
  • Act as liaison with manufacturers and vendors of software and application products.
  • Design hardware solutions related to project execution and customer site requirements and needs.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders, including sales support when needed.
  • Work alongside Emerson to diagnose and resolve system complications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Knowledge:
  • Four Year degree, Engineering/Technical curriculum or university program certificate, or 5+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience such as Chemical, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering or Computer Programming.
Experience/Skills:
  • 4 + years proven experience working as an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer in a manufacturing environment. (Combine this with Education/knowledge)
  • Additional experience required with DCS systems such as Operator Display implementation, I/O database implementation and control strategy design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of DCS/PLC platforms. Emerson applications preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical manuals, and journals.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, sales, and other personnel.
  • Ability to effectively present information to individuals or groups or people with similar background and training.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and diagrams.
  • Ability and desire to obtain Emerson certifications.
  • Strong work ethic displaying consistent dependability, reliability, and initiative.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to wear maximum level of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction which may include but is not limited to: hardhat; safety glasses; fire resistant clothing; safety-toed footwear; hearing protection; respiratory protection, etc.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to walk and stand 8 hours per day.
  • Frequent climbing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
  • Hazards: Potential exposure to chemicals. Proximity to moving mechanical and mobile equipment.
  • Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold.
  • Environmental Conditions: Exposure to chemical plant manufacturing facilities. Must work both outside and inside and often in inclement weather conditions. Frequent exposure to noise and vibration. Must be able to distinguish emergency and other alarms and respond according to prescribed procedures.
