SDOT has an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and detail-oriented Senior Transportation Design Drafter (Senior Civil Engineering Specialist) on our Engineering Services team within the Capital Projects Division. This key team member will support major transportation projects citywide by drafting plans for a wide range of civil infrastructure projects that will include bicycle access, transit, bridge rehabilitation, roadway structures, and arterial paving and resurfacing. The Senior Transportation Design Drafter will work closely with engineering teams to support SDOT’s Neighborhood Greenways, Transportation Master Plan, and Pedestrian Master Plan improvements programs.   • Produces high quality civil engineering AutoCAD drawings that adhere to accepted engineering practices and standards, as well as the City’s CAD standards.
  • Utilizes Civil3D tools to prepare and edit 3D surfaces, profiles, and pipe networks.
  • Manages multiple XREF and plot files within a cloud-based file system.
  • Coordinates plan submittals with internal design team members and consultants.
  • Prepares structural details, retaining wall elevations, and profiles.
  • Coordinates with public and private utilities to obtain records and maps. Performs City record research and prepares underground utility basemaps.
  • Supports project teams in the preparation of GIS figures, easement figures and exhibits.
  • Provides exceptional customer service and demonstrates initiative in problem-solving.
  • Actively participates in virtual and in-person group or project team coordination meetings.
  • Supports the development, innovation, and implementation of CAD drafting tools and standards improvements for the Division and the Department.
  • Works closely with a multi-disciplinary group of engineering professionals and contributes to an environment of continual improvement and innovation.
  • Supports department goals in promoting diversity and social justice in keeping with the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two years of college-level coursework in engineering and construction technology.

Experience:

  • Four (4) years of civil engineering experience.

OR: An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties.

Though not requirements, strong candidates will have some of the following experience or are able to describe comparable experience:

  • Familiarity and experience working in Microsoft Office 365 software. Including Word, Excel, Sharepoint, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with City of Seattle ROWIM and City CAD/BIM Standards.
  • Expert-level ability with AUTOCAD, CIVIL3D, and AutoDesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
  • Ability to thrive and communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as customer service skills.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently while keeping supervisor informed of progress and issues.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and the ability to actively manage multiple processes.
  • Ability to work effectively and productively in a hybrid work environment.
  • Ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base.

Other Requirements:

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

  • Work is typically performed in a hybrid work environment in which a minimum of 3 days of the work is completed in a City office, and 2 days of the work is completed remotely in a regular 40-hour work week.

The full salary range for this position is $57.50 - $64.43 hourly.
