About Moab

Moab is building a modern, all-in-one software platform for equipment dealers & rental businesses. The equipment dealer & rental market is a key part of the multi-trillion dollar construction, agriculture, and logistics industries, and is currently underserved by antiquated incumbent software solutions (most of which were founded in the 1980's and 1990's).

Our vision is to connect everyone who is selling, buying, renting, servicing, or utilizing equipment, starting with a new system-of-record for equipment rental businesses that will help our customers create efficiency in the back office and generate more revenue in the front office.

We’re a small team of energetic, dedicated, and passionate individuals. We value team members that can not only roll up their sleeves to do hands-on work, but also think clearly & creatively about the big picture. We seek new team members who are eager to dive in and collaborate with the rest of the team to drive impact for our customers and for the business. At Moab, you’ll find significant room for career growth, fostered by a meritocratic culture that prioritizes individual and team development.

About the role

We seek a Product Designer who is motivated by the opportunity to create delightful experiences for our customers and collaborate closely with our founding team – as our first full-time design hire, this is truly a ground floor opportunity. You will have significant autonomy, ownership, and impact over the entire product, and you’ll set the design culture.

As a designer at an early stage start-up, you will have to balance speed vs process while covering a massive surface area – you won’t always have time for high-fidelity mocks, user studies, information architecture brainstorms, etc (although we respect and appreciate all of those things!). Sometimes, we will simply need to execute while ensuring that we are also laying a durable foundation for the future.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and design the user experience for our core product, owning the end-to-end design process from prioritization through launch.
  • Work closely with our founding team to iterate on designs and incorporate user feedback into the product.
  • Bring best-in-class design patterns to customers who may not be familiar with modern UI/UX.
  • Build and curate a lean design system that balances consistency & velocity with speed of iteration.
  • Effectively communicate design concepts to stakeholders.
  • Work directly with developers to bring your designs to life.
  • Break down ambiguous problems into actionable next steps, and ruthlessly prioritize your time.
  • Advocate for the user and push for simplicity whenever possible.
  • Creatively apply the latest technologies (e.g. LLMs) to solve real customer problems.

What you need

  • 2+ years of experience in product design at a technology company, start-up, and/or digital product agency, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience with end-to-end (UX and UI) product design.
  • Hands-on experience collaborating closely with developers and product managers.
  • Excellent visual design skills and strong grasp of UX best practices.
  • Ability to absorb and understand complex products and workflows quickly, with a high degree of user empathy.
  • Ability to execute quickly and thoughtfully on ambiguous problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with developers, product managers, and stakeholders.

Nice to haves

  • A strong understanding of software development workflows and principles.
  • Frontend engineering/CSS experience, with the ability to help implement your designs in some capacity.
  • Experience building modern B2B software.
