Program Description:
Centuria Corporation is seeking a Sr. Ground Radar Electronic Technician to join their team of 55 scientists, meteorologists, engineers, and IT experts to provide infrastructure engineering design, development, implementation, production, installation, and integration support to the National Weather Service (NWS), Next Generation Radar (NEXRAD) Radar Operations Center (ROC).
This role will be supporting the Maintenance Team and nearly 160 NEXRAD doppler weather radars that provide accurate and timely weather radar data across the Continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Korea. The ROC aims to maintain the system's reliability, improve its capabilities, and support meteorological services that enhance public safety and weather forecasting nationwide. The team is involved in every phase of the system lifecycle across business and technical applications. We also provide facility support, program management, and quality assurance. This contract involves customer touch points within NWS, Department of Transportation, and the Air Force.
Job Responsibilities:
• Perform routine and depot-level maintenance on, and help configure for testing activities, the Radar Operations Center's (ROC) WSR-88D Test Bed radar
• Participate in a year-long intensive training via mentors, classroom lecture settings, and OJT to become an expert in understanding the WSR-88D weather radar hardware components (antenna, pedestal, transmitter, receiver, and other components) and how to repair them; Note: failure to complete the training will likely result in reassignment or termination of employment
• Attain Hotline Certification via this training in order to work the WSR-88D Maintenance Hotline in a solo capacity and provide radar expertise support to field radar technicians;
• Become climb-certified to perform work at heights more than 100 feet above ground level
• Perform shift duties on the 24/7/365 Maintenance Hotline as scheduled to help resolve radar issues and questions from field sites
• Travel up to 25% of the time, up to two weeks at a time, to field sites in the CONUS, OCONUS, and overseas to perform depot-level radar maintenance, such as replacing the pedestal bull gear, support testing activities (acceptance testing), or help local technicians diagnose and resolve difficult radar performance issues
Job Requirements:
• Associates degree in Electronics Technology or completion of equivalent technical courses in the Military Service or private sector.
• Experience in an engineering support position or maintenance support position is desired.
• Engineering technician experience includes working with engineers in prototype design development and testing.
• Electronic technician experience includes operation, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic systems and equipment.
• Experience in writing and revising technical documentation for electronic and electromechanical systems and equipment is desired.
• Knowledge of maintenance and operation procedures of systems and equipment is desired.
• Knowledge of data processors, software and firmware applications, and computer systems is desirable. Knowledge of radar related systems and equipment is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat is highly desirable.
• Experience repairing ground radar systems (as opposed to airborne radar) is preferred
• Must have experience/knowledge of Radar Systems
• Must have the ability to read and interpret electromechanical schematic diagrams
• Extensive travel (up to 25%), occasionally required.
• Must be physically able and willing to climb a 100-ft radar tower, work in tight spaces, and perform physically demanding labor for up to 8 hours.
