Job description:
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, architecture or a closely related
field AND four years of professional engineering experience; OR ten years of active engineering experience.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Licensure as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada is required at the time of application. Reference
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Department/division policies and procedures.
Building codes, public health and safety regulations, and engineering standards and criteria adopted by Washoe County, the Health District and the Cities of Reno and Sparks relating to sewer, reclaim water, wastewater, streets and roads, flood plain management, drainage and other commercial, industrial or residential construction.
Nevada Revised Statutes related to professional engineering assignments and responsibilities.
Principles of project management and coordination.
Computer software specific to the department/division.
Ability to:
Plan, organize, coordinate and carry out a variety of complex professional engineering projects.
Negotiate with consultants, developers and contractors.
Make effective presentations to staff, governing boards, elected officials and outside design professionals.
Implement county and departmental policies, procedures, standards and codes.
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of civil engineering.
Modern methods and techniques of design and implementation of a variety of construction and maintenance
projects (including use of applicable computer hardware/software applications).
Ability to:
Calculate time, material and cost estimates, and determine scheduling requirements for major Community
Perform economic evaluations of assessment districts and assessment distributions.
Adapt approved engineering methods and standards to the design and construction of a variety of Community
Perform technical research and provide accurate advice on resolving engineering problems as they relate to compliance with regulatory standards and criteria.
Read and interpret plans submitted by engineers, architects and other design professionals.
Analyze data, including evaluating job costs, preparing bid specifications and tracking expenditures.
Read, interpret and apply regulations, policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Maintain effective working relationships with staff, design professionals, contractors, government staff, elected
officials and the general public.
