As part of the Tesla Supplier Industrialization Engineering (SIE) team for Energy Mechanical parts, you will be responsible for critical component development, qualification and life cycle activities within the supply chain. This team supports mechanical parts for energy storage and charging in industrial and residential applications. The job involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions and on-the-spot critical decision making. The goal: delivering on time quantities of high-quality component parts into Tesla's production processes to enable rapid development cycles, product launches and stable production.
Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct and conduct industrialization related activities within the supply chain team
  • Develop, manage, audit and improve supplier planning and execution of component manufacturing, assembly and quality control processes from the development phase to qualification and mass production
  • Accountable for supplier audits to ensure suppliers ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations
  • Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at Suppliers through conducting and implementing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) analysis and drive design solutions during early design phase with Design Engineering team
  • Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements and Critical to Quality (CTQ) items that drive robust supplier processes to meet requirements from Design, Quality and Production teams
  • Accountable for leading, tracking and improving supplier manufacturing process development and launch readiness for new products and design changes
  • Drive supplier improvements on materials, design, manufacturability, quality or cost reduction
  • Manage supplier quality performance and work closely with Factory Quality team and Supplier Quality Engineers to address Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) involving design and/or process changes to ensure actions are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers
  • Owner of RFQ's and contract management - ensure Non-Disclosure Agreements, General Terms & Conditions, Piece Price Agreements, and other related contracts are negotiated, agreed and appropriately documented before business is initiated
  • Drive negotiation for piece price and product development to ensure that Tesla's pricing meets best-landed-cost expectations as well as Supplier Industrialization standards of Best-In-Class quality
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or evidence of experience and exceptional ability
  • 3+ years of experience supporting sheet metal, stamping, machining or similar mechanical fabrication processes in a Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering role. Will accept a master's degree in same fields with 1 year work experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Quality Systems (PPAP/APQP), NPI and inspection
  • 1 year experience with 3D CAD, DFM, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), statistical process control (SPC) a plus
  • Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, hands on and in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong technical writing and discussion ability to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner
  • Domestic and International travel (average of 30 - 40% of the time) is required to engage with suppliers, possibly on short notice

    • Expected Compensation
      $80,000 - $204,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
