Essential Job Functions
The Business Intelligence Engineer II is responsible for analysis, requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and documenting to build visualizations leveraging the Firm's BI Toolset. Possess both technical and business-facing skills that allows driving solutions from a functional and technical perspective. The Business Intelligence team is chartered with providing the skills and innovative technologies to design, develop, produce, and sustain data analytics and reporting projects across the firm.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for designing, developing, and testing actionable Power BI dashboards with strong emphasis on UI and UX design.
- Ensure support in analysis and design during all phases of software production, including suggesting the most effective solutions for its implementation.
- Gather and document functional and technical requirements and translate requirements into solutions using Power BI.
- Collaborate with data engineers on architecture required to support visualization applications and ensure sustainable and timely data pipelines.
- Proactively identify and communicate dependencies, issues, risks and, or barriers to completing assignments, and escalate to appropriate project stakeholders and, or supervisors.
- Contribute to and assist in defining best practices around dashboard development, testing, access management and refresh scheduling.
- Help drive user adoption of visualization applications and evangelize data-driven decision making across the firm.
- Support the availability and optimized performance of developed applications and visualizations.
- Maintain changes to data structures, schema and documentation associated with the BI applications.
- Ensure software standards are met and comply with the firm's policies on governance and risk mitigation.
- Recommend enhancements and modifications to optimize business intelligence processes.
- Work in a highly agile development environment.
- Develop a strong understanding of the business and its' systems to support the firm's strategic objectives.
- Be a resource and advocate for data within the organization by teaching and empowering others to use data.
- Maintains up-to-date awareness of current and future directions of business industry and associated technologies.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education, Work Experience, Skills
The candidate must have a BA/BS in computer science, related field, or equivalent experience with 5+ years' experience of reporting and data analytics. The ideal candidate must have good judgment, problem-solving, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and build positive working relationships. In addition, candidates must be self-motivated, organized, and able to multi-task and effectively prioritize competing demands, along with:
- Expertise required in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Proficient in best practices around visualization and storytelling with data.
- Strong understanding of relevant data security concepts, e.g., row-level security, etc.
- Able to manage requirements gathering and client interactions.
- Knowledge of database design techniques.
- Advanced SQL skills with SQL Management Studio.
- Experience working with relational and dimensional data models.
- Ability to understand and work with disparate data sources.
- Ability to build and foster excellent working relationships with IT and non-IT business units.
- Experience working with Microsoft Report Builder or Visual Studio is preferred.
- Experience with Qlik or Tableau is a plus.
- Experience delivering business intelligence solutions in a legal environment is a plus.
- Ability to quickly understand business issues and data challenges of the organization.
- The ideal candidate has tactical experience with master data management practices.
- Self-starter, team-player and will be expected to manage and complete their tasks in a fast-paced results driven environment.
