POSITION GOAL
To develop and enhance new and existing programming application systems.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Programmer shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below .
- This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
- Create, review, analyze, and modify programming systems using specific programming languages (e.g., COBOL, ABAP, NET).
- Using provided specifications, develop, code, test, verify and move programming changes into production.
- Maintain and enhance existing systems.
- Assist in designing, creating, and analyzing data interfaces between information systems.
- Advise supervisor or systems analysts of how system will perform based on coding changes. Prepare system documentation and program specifications, as needed.
- May lead small developmental projects or subsets of larger developmental projects, including providing technical guidance to lower level programmers.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate in the training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of five (5) years, within the last ten (10) years, of experience in creating, reviewing, analyzing, and modifying programming systems;
- Or an earned associate's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of seven (7) years, within the last ten (10) years, of experience in creating, reviewing, analyzing, and modifying programming systems;
- Or a standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program and a minimum of ten (10) years, within the last twelve (12) years, of experience in creating, reviewing, analyzing, and modifying programming systems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Progressively more responsible work experience in programming design and implementation.
SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose
Communicates frequently with employees throughout the District, using tact and good judgment, to complete assigned projects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
