Summary/Objective
Evaluate materials to manufacture materials for use in products that must meet specialized design and performance specifications. The Design Engineer will develop, process, combine, and test materials to be used in production. Based on data gathered and expertise, the Design Engineer will also identify and recommend the most appropriate materials for specific applications. Includes those engineers working with composite materials or specializing in one type of material, such as metal and metal alloys, plastics, and polymers.
Essential Functions
  • Work collaboratively across multiple functional groups within High Bar Brands - Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Customer Service, Operations, Sales, and more.
  • Approach projects with an ownership mentality and ensure products follow HBB Product Development Processes.
  • Design and manage new products based on consumer research and requirements.
  • Develop SolidWorks models, assemblies, and drawings for new products based on consumer research and requirements.
  • Support suppliers in the development of tooling and processing parameters
  • Perform production qualification (PPAP, FAI) work for externally sourced components.
  • Support sourcing initiatives through qualification of new vendors, processes, and materials.
  • Operation and maintenance of all development lab equipment, including both destructive and non-destructive methods of inspection.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of metallic materials selection, fabrication processes, manufacturing processes, manufacturing sequences, quality systems, and interpretation of technical drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of casting processes and foundry operations.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on experimental findings.
  • Ability to influence with the use of data
  • Basic knowledge of product development, sourcing, and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to independently analyze risk, make recommendations to the appropriate authority, and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Travel as needed, estimated to be up to 15%.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering field required
  • Experience with SolidWorks applications, surface modeling, FEA Simulation, etc.
  • Strong analytical and materials analysis experience preferred

  • Prolonged periods of sitting. Extended periods of time using a computer screen.
  • Must be able to lift up to thirty pounds at a time.
  • May be required to travel to and navigate a variety of sites to fully understand material needs.
