Patent Associate Attorney — Mechanical Engineering

Sheridan Ross P.C. is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate in the Mechanical Engineering field. Qualified candidates will be USPTO admitted or have plans to take the exam and have 2-5 years of experience prosecuting patent matters. Additionally, candidates should be motivated self-starters with superb communication and writing skills, a commitment to excellence, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions

1. Draft and prepare provisional and non-provisional patent applications and other related patent prosecution documents.
2. Review, analyze, and draft responses to office actions.
3. Draft reporting letters summarizing the specific action received from the applicable patent office.
4. Review and draft licensing agreements and other IP related contractual documents.
5. Provide advice and assistance on all matters relating to invention management and patent applications.
6. Conduct legal, technical, and scientific research and gather evidence.
7. Ensure compliance with USPTO rules and regulations for U.S. prosecution matters.
8. Correspond with clients and foreign associates.

Job Requirements

Education

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, or metallurgical engineering.
2. Juris Doctor (JD).

Experience

1. 2-5 years of patent prosecution experience.

Other Requirements

1. Preferred candidates are licensed to practice law in the United States and be in good standing.
2. All candidates should be admitted to practice before the USPTO.
3. Strong writing and organizational skills.
4. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Base Salary Range: $140,000 – $160,000 with a 1750 billing expectation.
