As a Network Security / Firewall Engineer...
- Design, implement, and manage Palo Alto Networks firewalls in a federal environment, ensuring compliance with federal cybersecurity policies and regulations.
- Perform firewall rule base audits and implement changes to ensure optimal security and performance.
- Configure and maintain security policies, NAT, VPNs (including IPsec and SSL), and application-based rules.
- Monitor and analyze network traffic using various tools and logs to identify and respond to potential threats.
- Collaborate with network engineers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to implement security best practices.
- Participate in security incident response efforts, providing expertise in firewall management and threat mitigation.
- Conduct regular security assessments, including vulnerability scanning and penetration testing, to identify and address potential risks.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and personnel on Palo Alto firewall operations.
- Document all configurations, changes, and procedures in accordance with federal documentation standards.
- Proactively monitor security threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation techniques, ensuring the enterprise network remains secure.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Possess Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5+ years of experience in network security, with at least 3 years focused on Palo Alto Networks technologies.
- Experience working in a federal environment and familiarity with federal cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP).
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, firewall architecture, and secure network design.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex security and network issues.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness to work on-site and travel as required by the client.
- Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Have a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Have obtained a Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) certification.
- Have any network industry certifications, e.g. CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, Arista ACE 1-7.
- Are familiar with Macro-segmentation / Network Access control solutions.
