Summit Fire Protection seeks a Fire Alarm Designer for its New Hudson, Michigan office. The ideal candidate would have experience with AutoCAD and similar software to efficiently and accurately design fire alarm projects.
Position Summary
The purpose of the Fire Alarm Designer position is to design assigned projects to meet the overall goals of the project.
This position works in direct supervision of Fire Life Safety Manager or Department Manager.
There are no direct reports to this position.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- 2 years of experience using AutoCAD
- 2 years of experience in the Construction industry
- Adept at compiling, reading and understanding blueprints
- Yield efficient fire alarm design comparing the differences of labor, equipment, and installation materials.
- Adept with battery and voltage drop calculations.
- Review design with sales, project management, and superintendent prior to and throughout job processes.
- Effectively communicate specifications and contract specific requirements in an efficient, accurate manner.
- Maintain knowledge with national, state, and local codes and practices.
- Obtain required permits with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
- Maintain current knowledge on latest material developments.
- Accurately perform cost analysis for different system designs and material choices.
- Design by using a method to overview the entire scope of a project and working into the detailed requirements.
- Complete project package submittals including voltage calculation drops, materials and equipment required for installation.
- Collaborate with AHJs, Project Manager to clarify design requirements, materials and/or specifications.
- Coordinate design with the architect and other trades including Sprinkler and HVAC.
- Creatively plan design specifications within current constraints to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Correctly list necessary devices and materials for accurate interpretation of each design for installation purposes.
- Provide technical interpretation of the design by phone, email, in person and/or onsite to follow up on design quality and site obstacles.
- Excellent communication skills for internal and external customers, up and down chain of command; strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Efficient time management skills developed organizational skills and ability to prioritize initiatives and business goals.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Maintains knowledge on current code requirements including and not limited to safety.
- Ability to articulate design requirements including materials, equipment, and time.
