Senior Java Engineer, Backend Development

Job Summary:

As part of the Wealth Management technology team, this Senior Java Software Engineer will build and maintain numerous APIs and micro-services to support an application that is critical to the day to day functioning of the financial advisor. The application surfaces rich statistics about a client’s account. The core team is based out of our headquarters in St. Petersburg, FL (Hybrid).

This candidate also exhibits excellent English written and oral communication skills allowing them to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Write clean and maintainable code.
2. Debug, improve and maintain existing code.
3. Participate in the Agile development lifecycle, including daily stand-ups and biweekly sprint planning.
4. Communicate across departments within the company and with business users to solve problems.
5. Develop and use collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.
6. Occasionally work a non-standard shift including nights and/or weekends and/or have on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

1. Understanding of the SDLC lifecycle for Agile & Waterfall methodologies.
2. Good knowledge of DevOps & collaboration tools: Jenkins, GIT, TFS, Sonar.
3. Experience with deconstructing complex problems into modular simple solutions.
4. Strong understanding and discipline around software test approaches.
5. Strong sense of dedication and teamwork toward a goal.

Skill in:

1. Java, J2EE development with working knowledge of Spring and ORM (Hibernate preferred), Spring Boot, cache implementations.
2. Spring Boot and experience with database queries in PL/SQL, Functions in Oracle.
3. Experience in Reporting frameworks such as Jasper is nice to have.

Education/Previous Experience:

1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business or related degree and three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience or a combination of education, training and experience approved by HR.
2. Experience in Financial Services Industry is nice to have.
