GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Engineer I will collaborate with technology partners to design, build, test and deploy quality, highly scalable applications and reports including BI / Cognos reports required by the Supply Chain applications. This position works directly with the business, BI and IT reporting teams to review requirements and develop efficient reports. In addition, the Engineer I manages the change control process, migrating and promoting new reports to Production including the Change Order creation and approval through the movement of the code to the associated folder and validation. The Engineer I also serves as a functional and/or technical expert in one or more disciplines and works with software and/or hardware vendors on enhancements and production issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
System and Reporting Analysis & Development
• Analyze user system and application needs, determine and evaluate potential solutions, develop system specifications and requirements, and design application to meet the requirements. In addition, document specifications for business intelligence reports like Cognos analytics, dashboards, or other outputs.
• Participate in requirement analysis, technical design and architecture discussions. Lead the activities of providing new capabilities and driving value from existing capabilities and reporting solutions.
• Research, analyze and evaluate current technical trends, emerging technologies, reporting tools and platforms, new software functionality, and alternative software solutions to determine applicability and viability at Ross.
• Design, code, test new or modified applications and reporting. Foster and adopt good coding and industry practice.
• Ensure IT change management practices and procedures are followed.
• Manage security for reports and folders.
• Direct execution of release and deployment plans with all stakeholders.
• Collaborate with internal and external IT teams to resolve/improve IT processes and procedures. Maintain stability and quality of service by ensuring standard operation standards and processes are followed and kept current.
• Manage day-to-day application support activities for defined area/department. Define and prioritize problems and requests.
• Support existing production systems, coordinate related support and enhancement activities. Validate application post patching and other maintenance activities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
• 5 to 7 years' experience supporting retail systems or IT management consulting experience. Solid understanding of retail dynamics within a complex, highly integrated environment.
• 5 years of experience working with Business Intelligence applications or software such as Cognos (preferred), Power BI or Tableau.
• 5 years of software application design and hands-on development experience with latest technologies in Windows scripting (Power Shell, Python), relational databases (SSMS, Oracle), Web (IIS, JBOS), security protocols (REST, SOAP), etc.
• Data analysis and design experience
• Data modeling and query optimization experience
• Conceptual and practical understanding of IT Infrastructure, products, and services, such as relational databases, networking protocols, encryption, and other technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and acquire new technologies in the areas of Windows, Web applications, Cloud deployment and database development.
• Ability to analyze and creatively solve complex technical problems.
• Experience implementing and/or supporting hardware and packaged solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding work ethic, displays a high sense of urgency to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education, industry certifications and relevant experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience with IBM BI tools and Cognos.
• Knowledge of SQL query development and database principles
• Experience with Snowflake and other BI reporting tools a plus
• Tomcat experience a plus
• Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel
• Experience dealing with cross-functional teams and business partners on projects.
• Experience with supply chain/transportation applications in a retail environment a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
This position requires the ability to work in an office environment, including using a computer, attending meetings, working as part of a team, and the ability to communicate with team members and others. Regular attendance also is a requirement of the position.
Some travel may be required.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including attending in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work. #LI-Hybrid
