Krauss Maffei Company celebrated its 185th anniversary in 2023. The American subsidiary was established in 1966. This subsidiary has become one of the leading manufacturers of plastics processing machines on the North American market. We now very successfully support our customers - many of whom are long-standing - in all three technologies including injection molding machinery, reaction process machinery, and extrusion machinery, as well as integrated automation solutions.
We are currently looking to add a Field Service Engineer with strong electrical and mechanical skills to our Extrusion team.
*This role is based out of our Florence, KY. location with travel up to 85% of the time
Summary
Provide technical support and troubleshooting service to customers over the phone, virtually, and at their facilities to install, repair, and optimize Krauss Maffei equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Systematically and efficiently analyze, troubleshoot, and restore function to Krauss Maffei equipment.
- Commission Krauss Maffei equipment and follow standard procedures to ensure customer satisfaction and handoff.
- Review work completed, costs, time, and additional work identified while on site with manager and customer as needed.
- Create thorough and detailed service reports that include description of visit, work completed, costs, time, and additional work identified.
- Conduct customer training relating to the operation and maintenance of Krauss Maffei equipment and products.
- Lead and train less experienced service personnel as needed.
- Follow standardized procedures.
- Collect requisite information to create standards when opportunities are identified.

- Ability to work collaboratively with local and cross functional technical teams during service visits and large-scale installations
- Effective verbal & written communication skills to support positive outcomes
- Ability to read chemical flow schematics, hydraulic flow schematics, electrical schematics as well as navigate OEM documentation.
- Practical competency in safe mechanical/electrical tool use (hand and torque wrenches, calipers, multimeter, power tools, air tools, hydraulic testing equipment)
- Ability to operating lifting equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts or other mobile lifts
- Understands equipment function: Able to identify equipment functional locations and state general equipment functions for Rim equipment (hydraulic presses, electrical presses, rotary conveyors, hydraulic unit, and robots)
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming and function (Allen Bradley, Sigmatek)
- Strong knowledge of electrical components (High voltage 480V/220V, Low Voltage, fuses, relays, contactors, motors)
- Understands function and can the ability to trouble shoot E-Stop circuitry
- Basic understanding of mechanical assemblies (conveyors, sprockets, belts, pulleys, gearboxes, centrifugal pumps, vacuum pumps)
- Basic knowledge of pneumatic conveying and troubleshooting (controls, actuators, or valves)
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates primarily at KM customer's sites, although some technical support may be provided from the home office as directed by management. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and forklifts. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. While on site, field service engineers are required to adhere to customer requirements for identification, safety, PPE, and all GMP's.

- The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness required.
This is an hourly, non-exempt, full-time position with standard working days/hours of Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with paid overtime as necessary to complete required tasks. Actual working hours may vary based on needs of customers.
Travel
Travel is significant (85% and greater, in a multi-regional area which includes Canada, Mexico as well as the US. Travel at times during large scale installations can extend to multiple weeks at a time within reason. All travel requires overnight stays at the location unless the drive is less than 2 hours.
Required Education and Experience
- Successful completion of high school, or equivalent
- 3-5 years of related experienced in a manufacturing environment or technical field
- Competency in workflow software (MS Office, Innosoft, Concur, SAP)
