The Senior Project Engineer oversees the planning, execution, and completion of major capital engineering projects. Responsibilities may include managing project schedules, budgets, and resources, coordinating with clients and stakeholders, leading project teams, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, identifying and mitigating risks, and providing technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle. Broad knowledge of engineering disciplines, manufacturing, and automation is applied to solve various problems in both new and existing production lines in 24/7/365 environments. Sets expertise in system engineering, electrical controls, material handling, and process equipment to specify materials, methods, and machines appropriate for production needed. Extensive use of CAD for product and die design as well as plant layout of new and existing equipment. Continuous focus on improvement of safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and cost in all production aspects. Secondary resource for compliance with building, electrical and safety codes as well as risk management. Additionally, the Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for contributing to project proposals, feasibility studies, and technical reports, and mentoring junior engineers. The incumbent will need strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Major Capital Projects - 50%

  1. Conceptualize, plan, and execute small to large (>$5MM) projects both in home plant and other locations as needed in various worldwide plants.
  2. Work with external engineering firms to design and construct buildings and processes.
  3. Supervise and direct internal and contract personnel in the execution of projects.
  4. Track KPIs and manage to meet project and business objectives.
  5. Communicate as appropriate inside and outside the company.

Plant Support - 15%

  1. Direct support of daily operations as needed in home plant with regard to all plant and process equipment.
  2. Design of all extrusion dies and equipment.
  3. Facility-wide responsibility for risk management.
  4. Design and implementation of projects and activities pertaining to plant infrastructure and utilities (electrical, water, access control, plant air, RO water).
  5. Assist the maintenance group with high-level troubleshooting of equipment and processes.
  6. Recommend, modify or update equipment as needed to improve reliability and productivity.

Equipment and Process Subject Matter Expert - 15%

  1. Design, specify, purchase and install various production equipment including layouts and planning of production areas.
  2. Design and implement modifications and improvements to equipment as needed.

Leadership and Workforce Management - 15%

  1. Manage, direct, guide and mentor Project Engineers.
  2. Provide direction to remote sites on new equipment as part of project execution.
  3. Mentor less experienced engineers.

Customer Product Design - 5%

  1. Provide custom design products for customers as needed.
  2. Develop new extrusion dies and equipment to manufacture new products and geometries.
  3. Coordinate production of products at appropriate facility.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Materials Engineering or equivalent experience with a successful record of accomplishment safely leading the completion of several major industrial project installations. - REQUIRED

Masters Degree in engineering or business administration - PREFERRED

5+ years as Manufacturing, Plant, or Industrial Engineer (Major capital project (>$5MM) planning and execution. Work in 24/7/365 manufacturing environment) - REQUIRED

10 years manufacturing, Plant or industrial Engineer - PREFERRED

Automation, Material handling, risk control - PREFERRED

Additional Skills Required:

  • Ability to create 3D drawings using AutoCad products, including Inventor, or similar software - REQUIRED
  • Familiarity with building and Industrial codes (NEC, NFPA….) - REQUIRED
  • Project Management - REQUIRED
  • Demonstrated problem solving/analytical ability. - REQUIRED
  • Lead and supervise Projects - REQUIRED
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent organizational and communications skills - REQUIRED
  • Communication and presentation skills - REQUIRED
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, including MS Project - REQUIRED
  • People Leadership and Development - REQUIRED
  • Industrial Automation (PLC, HMI, SCADA…) - PREFERRED
  • Project Management Training and Certifications - PREFERRED
  • Professional Engineering Registration - PREFERRED
  • Gypsum Technical Expert - PREFERRED
