Electrical Designer
Our client, a Consulting Engineering firm, is seeking a motivated Electrical Designer to join their dynamic team. You will contribute to a range of projects, including high-rise apartments, K-12 schools, manufacturing facilities, and retail shopping centers. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for learning and will be involved in designing electrical systems that meet modern Green Building standards such as LEED and Green Globes. This position offers growth opportunities in a collaborative environment where innovation and sustainability are key.

This role is predominantly onsite in Portland, Oregon.

Electrical Designer Responsibilities

  1. Power System Design: Design electrical systems including power distribution and emergency generation.
  2. Lighting Design: Develop lighting systems for interior, exterior, and public street applications, as well as site lighting.
  3. Low-Voltage System Design: Create plans for fire alarms, security systems, nurse call systems, paging, and synchronized clocks.
  4. Code Application: Apply the National Electrical Code to design and evaluate electrical systems for a wide variety of building types.
  5. Electrical Evaluations: Conduct assessments of existing buildings’ electrical systems, including total energy surveys for municipal, industrial, and commercial facilities.
  6. Client Engagement: Work closely with clients to understand their needs and ensure project success through clear, effective communication.
  7. Forensic Investigations: Participate in investigations of electrical system failures and provide expert witness services as needed.

Electrical Designer Qualifications

  1. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
  2. 1-5 years of experience in electrical design.
  3. Solid understanding of power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage system design.
  4. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage directly with clients and team members.
  5. A consultative approach, demonstrating curiosity, a problem-solving attitude, and a desire to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  2. Experience or coursework in power distribution systems.
  3. Familiarity with Green Building standards such as LEED and Green Globes.
  4. Experience in a consulting firm or construction industry background.
