Job Requirements / Description
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

The Shopping Cart is a foundational element of nearly all online shopping. At its core, Cart is a collection of items that a customer intends to purchase, and because the customer personally added these items, they have an affinity for Cart as “my” gathering place on Amazon. Customers also use Cart as an extension of their shopping process to compare items, budget their purchase or save items for later consideration.

We serve millions of daily customers worldwide across all devices and enable business teams within Amazon to innovate on behalf of customers.

What we do

We own and operate full stack technology to serve all Amazon Cart customers worldwide and support hundreds of builders to innovate in Cart on behalf of customers. We build and improve the customer experience based on customer insights, business analytics and strategic investments to resolve customer pain points and support the constantly expanding selection of product and programs available on Amazon. We ensure our systems are always available to provide customers the same delightful experience during peak traffic events.

Key job responsibilities

  • Own systems responsible for Cart experience and associated technology to support Cart facing features on the Amazon store worldwide
  • Establish and execute short and long-term architecture roadmaps for the business
  • Manage a development team focused on building and accelerating customer facing innovation
  • Hire and manage performance for direct reports of Software Development Engineers
  • Improve efficiency and reliability of the Cart system to ensure customer trust, performance, and availability during peak traffic events
  • Engage with internal business teams to establish and build strong relationships to accelerate the innovation for customers across all business programs
  • Represent the technical team to senior leadership across the company through written and verbal communication

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
