Role Summary:

Picarro is looking for an applications engineer to become a key member of our semiconductor strategic sales & marketing team. This individual will have a hands-on approach, strong technical acuity, and a willingness to drive application development and support for Picarro's semiconductor products. This person will work closely with systems engineering and software teams to characterize and test products and ensure they meet specifications. This person will also be instrumental in developing technical product collateral for marketing and sales. You will be driven and have a proactive approach towards the end goal of delivering quality products with clear value to semiconductor customers.

The primary responsibilities of the Sr. applications development engineer are to drive product development and adoption efforts in the semiconductor vertical. The position reports to the director of product management and will be instrumental in driving new product adoption activities at Picarro's key customer sites.

You will:

  • Become an expert user of Picarro's semiconductor products
  • Characterize and exercise new products to ensure they meet specifications
  • Provide inputs on improvements, both performance as well as "look and feel" to the product teams
  • Drive the development of features by actively writing user stories
  • Create technical product collateral material for marketing
  • Be proactive as a customer advocate, looking for and solving problems before they surface
  • Travel to customer sites all over the world to support Betas and evaluations of new products
  • Provide sales training on products

Must-have qualifications:

  • Minimum BS in an engineering or science discipline. A Ph. D. is preferred.
  • 5 years' experience in an applications development role.
  • Requirement: Ability to travel to customer sites without restrictions in the US and abroad.


  • 5+ years experience in a semiconductor fab or semiconductor equipment manufacturing company.
  • Experience with coding, Python, and Linux.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Strong aptitude to articulate and execute business strategy.
  • Ability to comprehend and digest complex technical and application information and distill it into simple, easy-to-understand information for sales, management, and non-expert end users.

Nice-to-have qualifications:

  • A technical background to understand the hardware and basic building blocks of the software that is at the heart of Picarro's AMC solution. A Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field (e.g., Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, etc. ) is required; an MS or PhD is desirable.
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing, wafer yield, defect inspection and metrology a plus.
  • Additional technical and professional credentials relating to the aforementioned skills would be advantageous.

Salary & Benefits:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $115,000 - $150,000 USD. Your base salary range and title will be determined based on the location, experience, qualification, skills, knowledge, level, and pay of employees in similar positions.
