Position Overview
We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to support the build and maintenance of zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell trucks. This position will be based in the San Francisco, CA area and will involve on-site work at various locations across the region, including San Jose, CA .
The Field Service Engineer will serve as a technical expert for vehicle systems, software, and controls, providing hands-on support for vehicle production and maintenance at customer and service partner facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance of hydrogen fuel cell trucks at customer locations and service points.
- Troubleshoot vehicle issues, including electrical, software, battery, and system performance problems.
- Document service issues and collaborate with internal teams to ensure customer satisfaction and high vehicle uptime.
- Support vehicle commissioning, including electrical power-up, calibration programming, and initial fuel cell start-up.
- Conduct root cause analysis for vehicle production issues, using methodologies like the 5 Whys.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards during rework and repair processes.
- Provide feedback on failure analysis and design concerns to the engineering team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field (5-6 years of experience).
- Experience in application engineering, including software and controller interfaces, ideally in validation or calibration.
- Knowledge of vehicle assembly best practices and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Automotive experience with heavy-duty trucks (Class 6-8) or battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
- Prior experience in a vehicle assembly plant is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills with structured methodologies.
- Excellent organizational and follow-up abilities, with strong attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel domestically (up to 80%) and occasionally internationally to Canada and the EU as required.
