Summary

The T&D Overhead Design team is looking for an experienced Transmission Engineer III with knowledge in the design of complex transmission projects, utilizing NESC code and applicable industry standards. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced transmission and distribution engineers to execute capital and maintenance projects at the medium and transmission voltage levels in Arizona. It's an exciting time to work for APS as we experience record growth in our Transmission sector which entails upgrading existing transmission lines, designing new EHV line projects, EHV interconnections, and large customer-driven projects. Minimum Requirements

Engineer III:

A four-year Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline from an ABET-accredited institution plus five (5) years working experience in Engineering-related positions. Approved Engineer degrees Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Structural.

Engineer Senior:

A four-year Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline from an ABET-accredited institution plus eight (8) years working experience in Engineering-related positions. Approved Engineer degrees in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Structural.


Major Accountabilities

  1. Prepares engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations and verifications. Ensures engineering analyses, design, project control, schedule commitments, or oversight work is technically sound, cost effective, and in compliance with established standards, codes, and regulations.
  2. Interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and that work scope meets customer requirements, budget and schedule.
  3. Enhances department performance and productivity by formulating, coordinating, performing analysis and making recommendations for improvements.
  4. May provide oversight of engineering technical programs by managing the program requirements and coordinating corrective actions.
  5. May assume responsibility for small- to medium-scale projects which include planning, designing, scheduling and coordinating all facets of the project.
  6. Provides technical guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers.
  7. May participate in developing long-range strategies for significant site problems.
  8. Provides input to projects and recommends modifications to increase operating efficiency.
  9. Remains cognizant of current technology and engineering developments as well as industry and competitive developments.

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic setup are present. Employees will have two options to choose from:

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.

*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
