Principal Elastic Search Systems Engineer

The ElasticSearch Systems Engineer role provides support across an Agile team in a DevSecOps environment. This role will provide support for a large enterprise ElasticSearch deployment. This role requires providing design, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting support in the Elastic environments in both cloud (AWS) and on-prem.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Maintain Elasticsearch clusters in a cloud based environment across multiple availability zones.
2. Ensure the Elasticsearch clusters continue to run under optimal conditions.
3. Evaluate existing Elasticsearch clusters, configuration parameters, indexing, search and query performance tuning, security and administration.
4. Maintain appropriate infrastructure to maintain performance and data integrity.
5. Keep Elasticsearch clusters upgraded (as permitted by the applications reliant on them).
6. Spin up/customize clusters to meet various development and/or business needs.
7. Optimize indexes to meet business needs (e.g. logging, enterprise search).
8. Troubleshoot various issues with the clusters (from small errors like unassigned shards, to automation issues, to node/cluster failures).
9. Work closely with architecture, engineering and development and operations teams and jointly work on key deliverables ensuring production scalability and stability.
10. Ensure security of Elasticsearch cluster.
11. Follow and implement Elastic best practices.
12. Ensure appropriate monitoring & alerting of Elasticsearch.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

1. Candidate must have an active TS/SCI with a Polygraph.
2. Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree with 12 or more years of prior relevant experience or a Masters with 10 or more years of prior relevant experience.
3. 3+ year experience with Elasticsearch Administration.
4. Direct experience maintaining and integrating Elasticsearch within an operational enterprise information system.
5. Experience working in an Agile development environment and tempo.
6. Experience with deploying and using Elasticsearch in Commercial Cloud Platform (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
7. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience working on ODNI systems.
2. Understanding of ODNI system development policies.
