Security Benefit is searching for an experienced Software Engineer with proven experience to join our team. The ideal candidate may work remotely but will be required to travel to our home office in Topeka, Kansas or our New York office periodically. Security Benefit associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

What Does the Job Look Like?
Security Benefit is looking for a Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality software projects within our Agile framework. This involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, implement solutions, and continuously improve our development processes. This role requires adaptability, problem-solving, and a strong commitment to delivering value to our customers.
As a Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for:

  • Applying software engineering principles to analyze, problem-solve, and design a solution to implement software features and functionality according to business requirements and technical specifications.
  • Working within a Scrum Agile methodology framework, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure timely delivery of software increments.
  • Collaborating closely with product owners, business analysts, designers, and other team members to understand user needs, clarify requirements, and ensure alignment of technical solutions with business objectives.
  • Actively participating in process improvement initiatives, contributing ideas and feedback to enhance team productivity, quality, and agility.
  • Analyzing data to effectively coordinate the installation of new systems or modification of existing systems.
  • Writing unit tests and participating in code reviews to ensure code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborating with QA to perform integration testing, regression testing, and other types of testing as needed.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, including design documents, API documentation, and user manuals.
  • Adapting quickly to changing priorities and requirements, demonstrating flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced Agile environment.
  • Communicating effectively with team members, stakeholders, and customers, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and dependencies.
  • Staying up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in Agile software development, continuously improving your skills and knowledge.
Who Are You?
If you are passionate about technology, learning, and continuous improvement with a growth mindset and willingness to take on new challenges:
  • 3 - 5 years of proven experience in software development with a strong background in full stack development technologies such as angular, python, node.js, react etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, with practical experience working in Agile teams and delivering software increments iteratively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail with a focus on delivering high-quality software solutions that meet user needs.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, serverless architecture and containerization technologies.
  • Experience with version control systems, issue tracking systems (such as Jira or Confluence) and collaboration tools (Slack).
  • Financial Services industry experience preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of Security Benefit & Zinnia products and services preferred.
