Regional Environmental Engineer, AWS Environmental, Safety and Security

Job ID: 2807556 | Amazon Data Services, Inc.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Join the world-class environmental compliance culture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and be part of supporting the largest cloud computing infrastructure team as a Regional Environmental Engineer. As a Regional Environmental Engineer, you will lead the environmental regulatory compliance function of your assigned facilities. With an emphasis on water use and discharge in Eastern Oregon, this position will work closely with our Operational Water Team and AWS Water team to ensure our facilities are supported and remain in compliance. You will be responsible for advancing environmental compliance culture and improving the regulatory adherence of our data centers, by protecting the environment through environmental incident prevention, investigation, and mitigation. Each day you will work with our data center community, the people who make the cloud go. They are working with sources of air emissions, such as emergency backup generators, large scale water and wastewater systems, and handling waste from critical IT equipment. You will work closely with experts in security, construction, operations, logistics, compliance and corporate counsel to further the global environmental compliance program. You will use data to evaluate trends related to leading and lagging indicators to help your customer focus on environmental regulatory compliance, our organization's number one tenet. You will partner with employees as well as contractors to achieve environmental compliance goals and improve our already strong compliance culture. As AWS increases data capacity, you will partner with construction managers to ensure environmental risks are identified and mitigated prior to live operations. You will work in a fast-paced environment where our operations are rapidly changing, advocating compliant changes in the face of new infrastructure, new tools, and new products/processes.

Key job responsibilities

  7. Consult and partner with compliance and legal teams for interpretations and guidance
  8. Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company

  10. Coordinate with Enviro InfraDevelopment to prioritize environmental compliance in planning and execution in all phases of development projects
  11. Identify improvement opportunities, and partner with Enviro InfraDevelopment on programmatic issues that impact construction/operations handover phases
  12. Audit projects to the mental model ‘do you have a process, and are you following it?’ Then analyze data (leading and lagging indicators) for trends, risks/opportunities and report out at project/regional levels
