DURATION: Full-Time Permanent
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Environment and Technical Deployment Manager, the Enterprise DBA is responsible for providing operational database services to the organization. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role would include owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents, reviewing service related reports (e.g. database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs, responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with IT Enterprise engineers to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.
This role requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with any SLAs, establishing and maintaining communication with the project team to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on development / production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Installation, configuration and upgrading of database server software and related products;
- Evaluate database features and database related products;
- Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures;
- Take care of the Database design and implementation;
- Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges);
- Perform database tuning and performance monitoring;
- Perform application tuning and performance monitoring;
- Setup and maintain documentation and standards;
- Plan growth and changes (capacity planning);
- Work as part of a team and provide 7x24 support when required;
- Perform general technical trouble shooting and give consultation to development teams;
- Patch Management and Version Control;
- Perform other functions as assigned.
LEVELS OF SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:
No supervisory responsibility delegated. Reports to Environment and Technical Deployment Manager.
Qualifications
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS in Computer Science or BA with equivalent technical competency;
- At least three years of related experience with demonstrated proficiency in area of Database Administration;
- Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle.
- Microsoft DBA certification preferred, but not required;
- Understanding of Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008, and 2012. Knowledge of SQL Server 2014 and Oracle database administration a plus;
- Good knowledge of the physical database design; security management; data integrity;
- Ability to perform both MS SQL and operating system performance tuning and monitoring;
- Knowledge of backup and recovery scenarios;
- Good knowledge of how MS SQL acquires and manages resources;
- A sound knowledge of both database and system performance tuning;
- Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate appropriately with management, development teams, vendors and systems administrators;
- Provide a strategic database direction for the organization;
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the ability to perform basic office tasks and sit at a desk for an extended period of time. Job requires extensive use of computers and phones. While performing the job, the employee is required to sit, crouch, kneel, crawl, reach and have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to work with typical hardware and cabling practices required. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to adequately convey ideas and work well with a team. Ability to talk and hear, sit and use their hands and fingers, and reach in all directions is essential in performance of the job. Must be able to interact effectively with people at all levels of company. Work during established business hours and may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
