DescriptionJoin the Sargent Legacy in Securing Our FutureWith continual growth comes opportunity and Sargent has an immediate opening for a Research & Development Entry Level Project Engineer.Position SummaryThis engineering position reports to the Manager for Marine Research and Development (R&D) and is responsible for working in a team environment for the design, testing and documentation of R&D prototypes and new design processes. The primary focus of this position is design, specification, procurement, installation, documentation, installation, testing, and validation of the Future Noise Facility.ResponsibilitiesSelf-starter who demonstrates a sense of urgency in meeting expectations and delivering results.Assist in the creation & review of new concepts, designs, and test data with proper application of engineering principles.Assist in the development of technical proposals, cost estimates & schedules for R&D.Perform engineering analysis (stress, FEA, fatigue) and apply problem-solving methods to support new product development and/or sustaining production of existing designs.Work on design concepts and drawings in CREO.Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to facilitate inspection and manufacturing.Work directly with machinists to fabricate components.Work directly with manufacturing engineers to assemble and test components.Write test plans and test reports in support of assigned programs to demonstrate compliance to R&D goals and customer specifications.Support or lead component/assembly testing or work with test technicians to achieve test goals.Investigate, diagnose and resolve complex technical problems and communicate in clear simple terms.Maintain accurate, orderly project records, including design and test data, customer specifications, directives, etc.Provide assistance on development test programs and production.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree or higher in Physics or Mechanical, Aerospace, or Mechatronics Engineering.1 year of applicable experience.Ability to perform engineering hand calculations such as stress, fatigue, deflection.Working knowledge of or ability to learn 3D modeling software (CREO preferred).Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and organizational skills.Excellent MS Office skills.Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this position.Must be a U.S. Citizen.Preferred QualificationsHands-on, mechanical aptitude displayed through personal hobbies/projects.Prior exposure to a professional engineering work environment (i.e. internships, job shadowing, etc.).Working knowledge of engineering software such as Mathcad, MATLAB, LabVIEW software.Working knowledge of engineering analysis processes such as FEA, modal analysis.Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).Working knowledge of engineering topics such as acoustics, vibration, hydraulics.Familiarity with metal forming and manufacturing methods & processes.Familiarity with DMAIC (or equivalent) problem solving methodology.Familiarity with Sargent’s PMO process.ITAR Requirement: Due to ITAR regulations, this position requires that the employee must be a U.S. Citizen.Quality Requirement: Employees will participate in understanding, implementing and maintaining the Company Quality Policy in accordance with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 requirements.Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee will be required to move throughout the building to collect, handle and process production and prototype parts.RBC Bearings Incorporated (NYSE: RBC/RBCP) is a leading international manufacturer of highly engineered precision bearings, components, and essential systems for the industrial, defense and aerospace industries.
