Lead Power System Engineer

Position Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide applied electrical engineering and technical expertise for customers in the areas of power systems studies, power quality analysis, installation, startup, maintenance, and repair.

Responsibilities:

1. Perform power system engineering assessments of electric power systems in the areas of proficiency of protection, short-circuit calculation, arc-flash hazard analysis, design improvements of medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
2. Able to mentor Power Systems Engineers as directed.
3. Provide technical expertise to internal/external customers as business need dictates.
4. Assess results and prepare written report of findings, proposals, and improvement solutions.
5. Able to write and stamp power studies and/or verify and stamp other Engineer power studies.
6. Perform electrical design improvements primarily to support upgrades of facilities’ electrical distribution system in conjunction with needs determined in the assessment stage.
7. Meet customers on-site and review and identify their needs; Provide Engineering cost estimates and bid proposals.
8. Utilize Engineering skills and applicable codes and standards to implement electrical systems that are safe, dependable, and cost-effective.
9. Provide technical support and quality control for assigned projects.
10. Proficient in reading and accurately interpreting power system wiring diagrams including DC elementary drawings.
11. Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
12. Solid theoretical understanding of electricity and a good aptitude for problem solving.
13. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with customers and peers.
14. Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
15. Good customer service, time management, and follow-up skills.
16. Work effectively with customers, peers, and management to resolve client issues.
17. Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office as well as efficient use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research.
18. All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance with all regulatory laws.
19. Other duties as assigned by manager.

1. Bachelor’s degree in related field or experience equivalency and a minimum of 8 years related experience.
2. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Minnesota is required.
3. Previous professional experience in power engineering studies and design experience in industrial projects is preferred.
4. Experience with electric power systems, short-circuit, protective coordination, load flow, arc flash hazard analysis.
5. Knowledge of power system analysis software.
6. Proven skills in written and oral communication of technical topics.
7. Self-management of assigned projects and job cost accountability to perform work within budgeted cost estimates.
8. Interpret specifications to our customer requests to design technical solutions.
9. Short-Circuit, LV/MV Coordination, Arc Flash.
10. Ability to run medium studies and projects unassisted.
11. Knowledge of various industry standards such as: NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.
12. Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
13. Strong communication (written and oral).
14. Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
15. Able to work with various people throughout the organization - Customer Focused.
16. Focus on accuracy and efficiencies.
17. For positions that utilize a company vehicle, will be required to have a valid driver’s license.
