Job Title: Make Ready Engineering Technician
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Make Ready Engineering Technician who can coordinate and design joint use pole attachments and make ready recommendations. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Engineering Team to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of all work. Responsibilities include gathering field data, performing field inspections, and coordinating with team members to ensure compliance with NESC standards and utility pole owner regulations.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and design joint use pole attachments and make ready recommendations.
Collaborate with Engineering Team Members regarding aerial processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of work.
Determine the appropriate scope of pole installations, including compliance with NESC standards, spacing, midspan regulations, and utility pole owner regulations.
Gather information from field collection processes to identify pole owners and complete necessary applications.
Perform various field inspections and site walks (if local).
Identify existing pole conditions, including electrical equipment, pole configurations, and third-party attachers.
Utilize pole collection software such as Katapult.
Review utility poles and field notes to determine the most accurate make ready solutions.
Perform structural loading calculations according to NESC and pole owner protocols.
Provide solutions for poles that fail loading or are unsuitable for new attachments.
Create make ready summaries for various pole owners.
Essential Skills
High School diploma or equivalent.
4 or more years of experience in a similar role.
2 or more years of experience performing make ready work using relevant software.
2 or more years of experience in outside plant or joint use permitting.
Knowledge of NESC standards for cable attachments, spacing, midspan regulations, and utility pole owner regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Katapult.
Experience in Overhead Distribution design.
Prior experience in utilities or telecom design.
Proficiency with MicroStation.
