Overview

The Security Engineer possesses expert problem-solving, analytical, design and communication skills, in addition to in-depth technical knowledge of network and systems security. The Security Engineer is considered the subject matter expert for all aspects of IT security - including design, development, and support of the enterprise security environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop effective solutions to increase the security posture of company systems and projects.
  • Create test plans which will allow for a proper evaluation of security issues of the network and systems infrastructure.
  • Work with Infrastructure Team to communicate the information security state, improve information security controls, and remediate risk issues.
  • Maintain updated security plans and documentation of historical security events.
  • Interpret security policies, regulations, standards, and other mandates into security control requirements and work with management to create security policies.
  • Perform IT security risk assessments, product and application security evaluations and provide documented results/recommendations to IT Management.
  • Develop and conduct IT security education and awareness training to improve organizational security posture.
  • Measure and report security metrics to IT Management and IT Steering Committee.
  • Monitor current security stack alerts and respond to security incidents.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert with regards to all IT security related products and policies.
  • Develop automation scripts and workflows to track and respond to incidents.
  • Assist in PoC solutions including the evaluation, deployment, and management of new technologies.
  • Participate in weekly 1:1 and team meetings with Infrastructure & Operations Teams.
  • Communicate the current status of all ongoing projects and any security specific needs.
  • Cross train/mentor staff and company in awareness, security packages and best-practices.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Systems, or Computer Science.
  • Minimum 5 years of IT Security Engineering experience in advanced technical environment, preferably within large company.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and management.
  • Expert experience in Security Practices and Implementation of Policies.
  • 3 years of experience with a scripting language (PowerShell or other automation language).
  • Ability to manage projects and priorities with careful time management and little supervision.
  • Understanding of and experience with Microsoft operating systems, Active Directory & Domain architecture, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, NPS, PKI, McAfee, Veeam, and WSUS.
  • Experience with hypervisors, converged infrastructure and hybrid-cloud design.
  • Project Management experience, CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control), CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) or other relevant certifications preferred.
