AI/ML Engineering Manager

Manages a team of machine learning engineers responsible for the development and programming of machine learning integrated software algorithms. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguard's AI and ML Engineering Capabilities and Platform.

Core Responsibilities

1. Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew. Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
2. Oversees development and architecture AI/ML pipelines and implements ML engineering design principles for iterative pipeline development to drive scale and efficiency.
3. Develops strategies and helps evaluate tools/technologies to monitor existing AI and model pipelines in a production environment. Identifies and diagnoses data inconsistencies and errors, documents assumptions, and forages to fill data gaps.
4. Collaborates with other data science teams to review model ready dataset document/feature documentation.
5. Partners with data science teams to understand data requirements. Oversees detailed analysis of raw data sources for data quality, applies business context, and model development needs. Drives efficiency through the use of data discovery tools.
6. Engages with internal stakeholders to understand and probe business processes in order to develop hypotheses. Brings structure to requests and translates requirements into an analytic approach. Supports ongoing business planning and departmental prioritization activities.
7. Guides model monitoring and development as needed. Diagnoses root causes based on model monitoring alerts and triages issues. Coordinates and plans response to model monitoring alerts and resolves issues.
8. Executes operational plans to achieve department objectives. Collaborates with department or functional heads in planning, developing, and executing near-term goals.
9. Prepares, reviews, and delivers insight presentations and action recommendations. Communicates complex analytical findings and implications to business leaders.
10. Participates in special projects and performs duties related to troubleshooting data issues as assigned.
11. Basic knowledge of experimental methodologies, statistics, optimization, probability theory, and machine learning concepts to create self-running artificial intelligence (AI) systems to automate predictive models.

Qualifications

1. Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
2. Minimum of eight years related work experience.
