Operating Engineer - Boilers & Chillers

We are seeking a licensed and experienced Operating Engineer to handle the operation and maintenance of essential equipment at the central utility plant. This role requires a NILUPE or a City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineer License , as well as expertise in chiller and boiler systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the plant equipment operates efficiently, reliably, and safely.

Responsibilities:

• Operate, monitor, and maintain chiller and boiler systems to ensure uninterrupted delivery of chilled and hot water.
• Perform regular inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of powerhouse equipment, including pumps, compressors, valves, and control systems.
• Maintain compliance with safety standards and local regulations while working with high-pressure systems and other essential powerhouse equipment.
• Record and analyze operational data, such as pressures, temperatures, and flow rates, and make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal system performance.
• Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and control systems to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations.
• Diagnose equipment malfunctions and carry out repairs or coordinate replacements as required.
• Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure all equipment is operating within specifications and perform scheduled maintenance tasks.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years of relevant experience in a central utility plant / powerhouse
• Valid NILUPE (National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers) or City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineer License
• Hands-on experience with boilers and chillers
• Strong knowledge of chilled water and hot water system operations, including preventive maintenance practices
• PLC experience is a plus
