About Media Engineering QA

Media Engineering QA is responsible for the quality of the software and systems that prepare media content and metadata for the Disney Streaming platform - providing the best possible playback experience to our viewers. Media Engineering QA supports also include the systems that provide audio, video, & metadata content from feeding the content from various sources for normalization, processing, and packaging - supporting operator tools and automation for a scalable workflow. Our job also ensures all the systems fully functions and the coordination of the logic across players and back-end services through quality metrics and observability.

Job Summary:

As a member of our team, you will strive to accomplish the following goals:

  1. Contributing to the successful implementation of solutions for complex technical problems with DE&E Technology engineering teams.
  2. Owning the development and maintenance of two or more functional areas of core test automation, execution environments, build systems and tooling used across multiple products.
  3. Contributing the successful design & implementation of one or more project features.
  4. Providing strategic input on future initiatives with stakeholders and other engineers.
  5. Contributing to and collecting data to inform Key Performance Indicators used for defining project statuses and effectiveness.
  6. Check-in valuable, clean code daily that adds new features and capabilities.
  7. Becoming a member of our Quality Engineering team, increasing quality through innovation, automated test creation, curiosity and thoughtful debate.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  1. Builds solutions that scale and perform. Identifies opportunities to improve the system/product/services with each iteration.
  2. Typically owns software programs and multiple components within the team.
  3. Developing and supporting test automation frameworks, execution environments, build systems, and reporting tools.
  4. Drives development of component through own and more junior engineers' work.
  5. Work with product and development teams to implement a full stack quality solution.
  6. Maintaining documentation meant for end user consumption as well as project contributor documentation.
  7. Support and mentor developers and manual testers through code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and technical leadership.
  8. Investigating and resolving any framework, tool or execution of environmental issues affecting our services.
  9. Becoming a core member of our Productivity Engineering team, helping others increase productivity through innovation, and championing the core value of Disney Quality.
  10. Identifies problems and opportunities and recommends the development of solutions.
  11. Decisions and actions regularly have a moderate influence on the work of team members, other teams or assigned projects.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or the foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in a software development occupation, including automated testing backend services.
  3. Experience with Java and/or Python and proficient in object-oriented design where applicable.
  4. Experience with AWS or other cloud experience, and Docker Experience.
  5. Experience with test automation and unit testing frameworks.
  6. Excellent problem-solving skills.
  7. Excellent collaboration skills and ability to use standard software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools such as Jira and Confluence, and version control systems.
  8. Experience leading one to two teams in technical solutioning.
  9. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly motivated, self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with Kubernetes.
  2. Experience with quality metrics.
  3. Experience with Industry-standard test frameworks including TestNG, Robot Framework.
  4. Familiar with performance testing concepts is a plus.
  5. Video streaming experience is a plus.
