SUMMARY
This is a hands-on position. The Quality Engineer (QE) works in partnership with other departments to provide statistical data analysis and information for quality improvement; to coordinate and assist in all areas of manufacturing related to quality, including assembly/molding process, component quality, purchased materials, and continuous improvement; and to provide product knowledge training to all employees as necessary.
The QE owns quality control processes for the plant and is responsible to design and implement systems by which production quality can be checked on an ongoing basis. These systems include, but are not limited to, process control inspections, testing plans, new material qualification, and product/component designs. The QE assists in review and development of product specifications. Customer complaints are filtered through the QE who allocates resources to analyze the problem. The QE improves process standards using information obtained from operations for problem solving.
Must have strong people skills and be able to manage a diverse team. The QE will supervise Quality Control Inspectors in Molding and Assembly, Quality Laboratory Technicians, and Team Leads.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.:
• Determine quality improvement factors by identifying statistical techniques that are related to the manufacturing processes
• Participate in teams to help make necessary improvements and changes to all process related issues in the production department and offer recommendations and share results
• Coordinate continuous improvement projects for manufacturing and maintain records of these efforts.
• Create and maintain quality procedures
• Provide feedback to design processes to help with the improvement of quality and reliability
• Review in-process data and facilitate corrective and preventive actions as appropriate
• Maintain and control calibration records for all test and inspection equipment
• Develop, implement, and maintain systems to assure the quality of equipment, raw materials, and products.
• Coordinate and actively participates in Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis
• Perform tests and measurements-Owner of CpK, Gauge R&R • Conduct first article inspections, record, analyze and report results
• Design and implement process control inspection testing plan, including qualification of new equipment, material, and product or component designs.
• Assists in review and development of product specifications for new and existing products and/ or processes
• Investigates and assists in responding to customer complaints or inquires. This may involve direct dialogue with customers via phone, email, or on-site visits.
Other Duties
• Plan, organize, implement, and supervise the efforts and procedures to perform the activities above
• Delegate authority, responsibility, and work personnel capable of carrying out the tasks of the QAE program
• Supervise train and direct both seasoned and new employees in the department
• Determine the need and costs of new equipment and help make the final decision for the purchase
• Purchase supplies and equipment necessary to carry out the quality function with the approval of the designated individuals within the company

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university
• Quality Engineer certification
• 2-5 years related experience and/or training as a Quality Engineer or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Technical knowledge of injection molding and assembly processes • Understanding flow and fluids
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Competent with Microsoft Office and statistical software (Minitab desired, but not required)
• Programming experience desired, but not required
• Very well organized and quality focus
• Operate general and specialized laboratory equipment and testers (including CMM and/or SmartScopes)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PROBLEM SOLVING
A person in this position must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills when dealing with a variety of variables that may exist. Must also be able to use appropriate analytical tools for problem solving to analyze and interpret data to drive continuous improvement.
